Sudanese Henna Pattern Book

One of my local long time customers sent me this awesome henna design book from Sudan. I can't wait to start applying some of these awesome designs, you'll see a video soon. I wanted to share this gift with all of you. I scanned all of the pages including the front and back cover. The pages are tissue paper thin so preserving this little book is a must. Enjoy!

Thank you Pat, for sharing this wonderful gift with me.

Feel free to save and print the pages below. All I ask is that you do not reproduce these and sell them or watermark them, and please link back to this blog if you use the designs.

Sifting your henna to prevent clogs

This ever important step is becoming unnecessary now that 90% of henna exported (Asia, Africa, and the Middle East) is pre sifted. However, it is important to be able to identify when your henna powder might require sifting, and also how to sift.

If you spot small sticks, leaves, and fuzzy bits in your henna, it's time to sift. Hope this tutorial helps. Enjoy!

Today I happened to be sifting henna for an upcoming event and filmed part of the process. This is one of many ways to sift henna. If you rarely sift, these three household items can help. All you need is a bowl, sieve with fine mesh, and a spoon.

Scoop the henna into the sieve, use the spoon to move the henna powder around, and use the bowl to catch the newly sifted henna. You may have to repeat the process a few times before the sifting is complete.

14,000 YouTube subscribers? Giveaway?

I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would get to this number. I started the Free Hand Mehndi YouTube channel in February of 2008. It started off slow, my designs were awful, and I wasn't sure where I was going with it.

This month I decided to return to YouTube after an almost 2 year hiatus. Videos are a form of therapy for me, and of course over the years my skill has improved. I'm thankful to all of you who subscribe to my channel, comment, rate, and encourage me. Without your support I wouldn't have the following I have.

Today my YouTube channel sits at 13,866 subscribers. If by the end of July 2013 I hit 14,000 I do a special give away in August. I know this is totally possible. Thank you again subscribers for believing in me.

Please share my channel with your friends and family. Pretty pretty please.

Bridal Trends In Henna Patterns

Is it possible to have trends in bridal henna design? Absolutely! My spring brides have all leaned towards floral strips, floral strips surrounded by filler, mandalas surrounded by filler, and a fancy arm or wrist cuff.

Here's a cool design I made up the other night that incorporates a single floral strip, circle and dot filler, and a simple wrist design. It might look complex buts its actually quite simple, just lots of repetitiveness.
