Henna Design Placement Moroccan Inspired Henna Design

I get a ton of questions about design placement. Especially for parts of the body where you don't usually have henna applied. I did this Moroccan inspired chest piece back in December and used her cleavage and base of her neck to map the main part of the design. I then based the rest of the design off of the center piece. After finishing one motif I'd stand directly in front of her and map the other to match on the other side. It's more difficult than it looks, as you can see it's a little out of balance, but hey, who's perfect?

 I'll do a more detailed video explaining design mapping in the future, but this video shows a little demo.

Random Henna Inspiration at Midnight

I like to call this Mehndi Midnight Madness. Around midnight my mind is flooded with design ideas. Sometimes I sketch the designs out, other times I ignore the design flow and try to sleep, but these days I'm reaching for a henna cone and bringing these ideas to life.

For the last few nights Morocco has been my inspiration. I'm considering a whole month on youtube dedicated to Moroccan inspired henna designs. Last nights midnight madness I had khamsa/hamsa's on the brain, and geometric shapes and patterns. The typical Moroccan Henna outlines just wouldn't do. The outline of the ring and middle finger with no filler was perfect. I couldn't add or remove from this. Now that it's on skin I can sleep.

When that burst of creativity comes at midnight, how do you cope?

Challenge your henna artist skills

Every once in a while I randomly select a henna design book from my collection. Then I randomly turn to a page from this randomly selected book and I apply the first design I see. This helps me to keep my skill sharp and perhaps try a design I've never attempted. 

This week it was Zury by Heena Patel. I rarely apply designs from this book so it was a nice change. Zury is a pattern book of mainly Arabic style designs which means thicker lines and large florals.
